Frequent fail items we see
Local driving around Windsor and the SL4 area — short trips, speed bumps and seasonal weather — shows up in predictable MOT fails. Many are preventable with a 10-minute check.
1. Lights
Blown bulbs and incorrect headlamp aim remain top offenders. Walk around the car with the lights on before your test.
2. Tyres
Tread below 1.6 mm, cords exposed, or damage to the sidewall will fail. Check pressures when cold.
3. Wipers and screen
Worn blades and chips in the driver’s view are common. Replace blades cheaply before test day.
4. Brakes
Imbalanced braking or excessively worn friction material can fail. If you hear grinding, book an inspection early.
5. Emissions / engine light
A lit engine management light often means an automatic emissions-related fail on applicable vehicles. Diagnostics before the MOT can save a retest.
